The Financial Newspaper article – Tema Energy, about the Data Center market

Articol-Ziarul-FInanciarThe data center technology provider Tema Energy, whose customers include companies such as Vodafone, UTI, Bancpost or the Ministry of Justice estimates that it will register a 60% business increase this year (2014), given that in Romania there aren’t sufficient data centers to absorb the IT and telecom sectors’ development. “The density of data-centers in Romania is much below the average of countries in the region, such as Hungary or Poland. The accelerated development of the IT, telecom and call center sectors involves the need for ever greater data processing and storage spaces, which involves the development of high-density, but also very energy-efficient data centers”, Mihai Manole, Tema Energy General Manager, stated for ZF.

The products supplied by the company, technology for data centers, batteries and UPSs, are imported from Italy, Turkey and China. “This year is shaping up to be a good year for us and for our area of activity. Given the power back-up systems projects (backup systems in case of power failure- ed. n.), but also the data-center ones, signed at the end of 2013 and at the beginning of this year, we estimate that we will register a significant business increase this year”, Mihai Manole, Company General Manager, stated for ZF.

In the local market, Tema Energy competes with local players such as QBS, Romsys or Abacus, but also with international players such as the Germans from H&N or the Czechs from Altron.

“Among others, there are several high-capacity data-center projects who received funding last year and which will be implemented this year in cities such as Bucharest or Cluj,” Manole went on to state

From the beginning of the year, the company has signed contracts with clients such as Vodafone, Bancpost,UPC, Monsson or Omnilogic. Tema Energy also obtained an order with a total value of 150,000 euros from UTI Group, controlled by businessman Tiberiu Urdareanu, concerning generators for Skanska, the Promenade Mall in Constanta, the Water Park leisure park in Craiova and other locations. The company has also been subcontracted to provide data centers to the Ministry of Justice.

Alternative power supply for Star Transmission factories in Sebes

Alimentare-AlternativaTema Energy, a landmark company in the field of alternative electricity supply, has successfully completed the works on the development of a permanent power supply system (PSS) for Star Transmission, a Daimler Group company.

In December of last year, following a Europe-wide bid, the Romanian company Tema Energy was selected as an integrator of this solution for the Star Transmission-Daimler beneficiary. The contract included turn-key delivery of alternative power supply systems for the two production halls.

In order to ensure continued supply of the production lines and to avoid any outages, the company has implemented two PSS-type systems. The works involved the insertion, between the mains supply and the two mounting units of Star Transmission in Sebes, of high-power uninterrupted power systems (UPS), which prevent small grid outages (sometimes on the order of seconds), but also voltage spikes or sudden voltage drops. In the absence of such protective systems, the outages could cause great damage to the automated production lines, but also operational losses during downtime.

From a technical standpoint, the solution consisted of very high-capacity equipment – Generators, UPSs, but also numerous other auxiliary equipment and installations, including stationary batteries, electrical panels, climate controlled containers or electrical connections to the beneficiary’s installations.

The Star Transmission Company has, in Sebes, two operational mounting units of gear boxes for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars.

The Star Transmission – Daimler alternative power supply project is part of a series of major projects carried out by Tema Energy as an integrator, along with other works of this sort carried out for other major companies in Romania, in areas such as Medical, Telecom, Auto or IT.

Completion of DATA CENTER 3.1 – GTS Romania

Data-Center-GTSTema Energy has completed, at the end of 2013, the works to expand DC 3, the largest GTS Data Center, located in Bucharest.

With a total area of 244 sqm, it has been delivered turn-key by Tema Energy’s teams.

The room was equipped with Liebert Hiross Emerson professional air-conditioning equipment of x kW equipped with humidity control, but also with redundant power supply installation, floating floors and other setup works.

The power back-up will be provided by 600 kVA Riello UPSs and a Perkins 660 kVA generator installed by our teams in 2009, for the first phase of the arrangement of the Data Center.

At the same time, racks and PDUs for populating with IT equipment were provided, as well as hot/cold air aisle in order to improve the power consumptions.

The work was carried out over the course of about three months, also including design, consultancy and testing/commissioning activities.

The previous GTS Data Centers’ setup stages took place between 2006-2009, when the DC 2 and DC 3 halls in Bucharest were completed.

Later, in 2013, due to increasing demand from its customers, GTS decided to expand DC 3 by about 70 additional sqm, highlighting the company’s tendency to expand on the Romanian colocation and cloud services market.

Founded in 2002, Tema Energy has become in recent years one of the best known companies specializing in turnkey arrangement of Data Centers. Representative clients in this area include Star Transmission – Daimler Romania (2 Data Centers), Intrarom – the Ministry of Justice (2 Data Centers), Appnor MSP or Wipro Technologies.

GTS is one of the most representative internet, colocation and cloud service companies in Romania, being part of the GTS Central Europe Group and reporting a turnover of over 20 million Euro in 2012.
